Mets 6, Giants 4

WOW! Don’t have a lot of time to write, but the Mets pulled off a thrilling 6-4 victory tonight at home against the San Francisco Giants.
Rod Barajas won the game in the bottom of the ninth with his second homer of the game, a two-run blast off Sergio Romo to make a lucky winner out of Francisco Rodriguez.
K-Rod blew the save and nearly blew the victory as well, allowing a pinch-hit solo shot to the legendary John Bowker in the top of the ninth. K-Rod allowed a two-out hit to Aaron Rowand and balked him to second, with two defensive gems keeping the game tied. Luis Castillo made a diving stop of a Mark DeRosa grounder, keeping the tiebreaking run at third (DeRosa reached on the infield single). Then, Ike Davis ended the threat by tumbling into the dugout to catch a foul pop by Pablo Sandoval. It was an awesome game for the rookie first baseman, as he blasted a pair of solo shots and walked ahead of the game-winner by Barajas.
Lost in the late-game dramatics was a fine effort by Mike Pelfrey, who worked 7 1/3 innings, allowing three runs but throwing less than 90 pitches. Very economical effort from Pelf, and aside from a rough fifth where he allowed two runs, he was in control from start to finish.
The Mets get a chance to take the series tomorrow, and it’s a good chance. Johan Santana opposes Todd Wellemeyer at 1:10 p.m. Hopefully Johan can shake off the last putrid outing against the Phillies.
