Reds 3, Mets 2 (11 innings)

And so it goes with these New York Mets. They almost immediately wipe away the great feelings from an eight-game winning streak by losing three in a row, including two poundings by their arch nemesis (I’d call them rivals, but it hasn’t been much of a rivalry on the Mets end) Phillies, the Mets’ bats went to sleep against the Cincinnati Reds tonight.
The Mets ultimately lost in 11 innings when the great Laynce Nix hit a pinch-hit game-winning homer off Manny Acosta, but New York’s bats really lost the game for them.
They had several chances to push across the go-ahead run but failed each time. Jason Bay, who heated up during the eight-game win streak, has gone into a coma the last few games, and Jose Reyes still doesn’t quite look himself (although he hit a few balls hard tonight). It seems he’s a bit tentative, both at the plate, in the field and on the bases, as he picked up a one-out single in the 11th and didn’t attempt a steal like the Jose of old would have done.
Mets try to avoid a four-game streak tomorrow night when John Maine takes on Bronson Arroyo.
