And so it begins: Reyes out 2-8 weeks

Posted: March 11, 2010 in Odds and Sods

As if Mets fans haven’t suffered enough over the last three years, today comes the news that star shortstop Jose Reyes is out two to eight weeks with a thyroid problem. The ailment doesn’t require medication, but Reyes must change his diet and avoid physical activity until his thyroid levels are back to normal. This leaves Alex “I’m a nice guy but that’s about it” Cora as the starting shortstop, although I’d rather the team try young Ruben Tejada there or deal for someone else. Cora just isn’t a starting shortstop, especially when you consider the lack of range he and Luis Castillo possess. All sorts of grounders will find holes. Not good, folks!
