Thoughts on today’s game

Posted: March 4, 2010 in Mets

Watching the Mets-Cardinals game on MLB Network (the best channel ever by the way) and in most ways, it’s a typical spring training game. Mets lead it 17-10 in the ninth, pitching certainly hasn’t been on display. One of the Mets’ top prospects, Ike Davis, launched a grand slam well beyond the right-field picnic pavilion. Davis, the son of former major-leaguer Ron Davis, looks like a player and is off to a fast start this spring. David Wright and Gary Matthews Jr. also homered, Omir Santos went 3-3 with 3 RBIs, and young players like Kirk Nieuwenheis and Shawn Bowman each looked good at the plate for the good guys. Nobody with much of a chance to make the team (besides the terrible Sean Green) pitched today so it was hard to gather much from the pitching performances. Still, it’s great to see baseball again. Tina and I are going to a game on Sunday, and I’m fired up to see some of these young guys play.
