Johan out for year; Wagner dealt

Johan Santana will have season-ending elbow surgery, but to tell you the truth, I’m actually happy with this news because A. It isn’t reconstructive (Tommy John) surgery and B. This season has long been a lost cause, so why waste any Johan starts?. I really feared the worst with this injury, thinking Johan might be done for a significant part of next season, but it doesn’t appear to be the case. In other Mets news, Billy Wagner was dealt to the Red Sox after initially saying he wouldn’t waive his no-trade clause to go there. The Mets receive a pair of players to be named later, one of which is reportedly OF/1B Chris Carter. Carter is almost 27 and has put up good numbers at AAA, but I wouldn’t really call him a prospect. He could be a decent bench guy and hopefully he gets a nice look in September. To replace Santana and Wagner on the roster, the Mets recalled lefty Pat Misch and outfielder Nick Evans.
