Might be time for Livan to just leave

In his last two starts, Livan Hernandez has allowed 15 runs (all earned) and 21 hits over just seven innings. For those scoring at home, that's a 19.29 ERA and 4.14 WHIP. Yikes!

It seems Wednesday night’s win over the Dodgers was just a brief respite from complete suckitude for Mets fans, as New York was back to its sewage-smelling best last night.
For the second straight start, Livan Hernandez gave the Mets absolutely no chance to win with an outing that made me long for the days of Anthony Young and Eric Hillman. Livan surrendered eight runs on 11 hits in four innings of work (an eventual 11-2 snoozefest to the Dodgers), and combined with his last clunker against the Phillies, he’s now allowed 15 runs on 21 hits over his last seven innings, seeing his ERA rise from 4.04 to 5.10 in those two starts.
Livan has been solid for the Mets all year, but the bloom is quickly coming off his rose, much like it did for the Twins last year (although just a little bit later). Livan won his first six decisions for Minnesota a year ago before falling off a cliff. Looks like he may have reached said cliff for the Mets.
With the Mets now 40-44 and showing they’re as much a playoff team as I and my 250-pound frame am a marathon runner, it might be time to cut bait with guys like Livan and give Jon Niese an extended stay in the rotation, see what the young kid can do.
Again, as I’ve said in the past, if the team is going to nuzzle camel scrotum, I’d rather have them do it with young players than crusty old vets like Livan.
I’m sure they’ll give him a few more starts (and I know he’s earned them from his performance earlier in the year), but I really want to see Niese up here. Too bad Dillon Gee is hurt, because I’d want to see him with the Mets as well.
The Mets open a three-game set with the Reds tonight at ShittiField (hey I couldn’t resist, that’s the product they’re putting out there) before the All-Star break gives Mets fans a deserved break from Dead Team Walking (more likely striking out or hitting into a DP).
