Mets acquire Francoeur

Posted: July 10, 2009 in Mets

The Mets traded outfielder Ryan Church to the Braves for Jeff Francoeur, who has struggled for the better part of two seasons after starting his career looking like a perennial All-Star. Francoeur is hitting .250 with five homers and 35 RBIs this season, while Church had two homers and 22 RBIs this year. I might be in the minority here, but I like this move. Church is what he is, a decent complimentary part on a good team (which the Mets are not right now). He’s a solid player, one that will help the Braves immediately. Francoeur is more of a project at this point, but he’s only 25 years old and he’s had great success in the past, so maybe he can regain his form and become a 100-RBI type power guy again. It’s worth the risk in my book.
