Last night’s Mets win

Posted: July 9, 2009 in Mets

It feels so good to say that, the Mets won last night! After suffering through a four-game losing streak which saw the team score three runs in those four games, the Mets defeated the Dodgers 5-4.
Oliver Perez returned from a two-month stay on the disabled list, turning in a typical Ollie outing. He worked five innings, allowed two runs on four hits, walked seven and struck out two. He’s so frustrating to watch, but he is what he is. Hopefully good Ollie can show up more than bad Ollie the rest of the way.
David Wright showed signs of breaking out of his slump, collecting two hits and ripping another pitch for a lineout to center. Daniel Murphy also had two hits and made one of the nicest plays you’ll ever see at first when Mark Loretta ripped one off the first base bag. Murphy stayed with the play and with no time to spare, flipped a behind-the-back pass to pitcher Bobby Parnell covering at first. The Knicks need a point guard, you interested Murph? I think Loretta was safe, but it doesn’t take away from the awesomeness of the play. The Mets’ pen did its job, although Francisco Rodriguez has been scaring me of late. Mets win, they’re 40-43, still 4 1/2 games out of first in fourth place. But at least Mets fans everywhere got a break from the poor, uninspired play we’ve seen of late. Let’s Go Mets! Rubber game tonight on MLB network when Randy “Teen” Wolf takes on Livan Hernandez.
