Soundgarden talking B-Sides, box set

soundgarden2I’m one of the biggest Soundgarden fans around, actually I loved just about all of the bands that came out of Seattle (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains). I always felt Soundgarden broke up way too early, dissolving in the mid 90s after the tremendous Down on the Upside. Well, I just saw on Rolling Stone (link included) that Chris Cornell and the boys are talking about putting out a B-sides collection and possibly a boxed set of unreleased material. And there are hints in this interview that the band may one day re-unite. I’d love to hear some new Soundgarden material, especially since Cornell’s solo career has really been hit-or-miss. Audioslave (the band Cornell formed with the non-singing members of Rage Against the Machine) was a good band, but Soundgarden was far superior. Anyway, I’ll have more details on here if they make any kind of announcement on release dates for the b-sides/boxed set or (fingers crossed) if the band decides to record/tour again.

  1. I never really paid attention to them during their time, focusing more on the other bands you mentioned, so when I hear their stuff now it’s like new music to me. Psyched to learn there will be even more.

Badmotorfinger and Superunknown are hard-rock masterpieces, and Down on the Upside was just a shade below those two. And while I don’t enjoy their earlier work as much as their later albums, each of their early discs have great songs on them as well.
