In some positive Mets news, lefty Jon Niese is pitching really well for Triple-A Buffalo. A look at his overall numbers (4-6, 4.32 ERA) are very misleading, as he got off to an awful start this season. Over his last six starts, Niese has been downright stingy, allowing five earned runs over his last six starts, spanning 43 1/3 innings. He’s walked 10 and struck out 39 during that time, good for a 1.04 earned run average. He tossed a five-hit shutout tonight against Rochester (AAA affiliate of the Twins), walking two and striking out 10 in a 126-pitch outing. I thought Niese might be a candidate to be traded (and he still may be), but we might see Niese back in the bigs sometime soon (just pure conjecture on my part). I’m thinking the clock is about to strike midnight on Fernando Nieve (if it hasn’t happened already), so Niese could be a decent candidate to slot into the rotation. Any thoughts, Met fans?
