Back in the saddle

Posted: July 4, 2009 in Mets

After a one-day layoff, I’m back at my blogging best. Yesterday was not a good day for the Mets, as Livan Hernandez was absolutely pummeled by the Phillies’ bats in a 7-2 loss. Hernandez gave up seven runs on 10 hits in three innings, taking the Mets out of the game early. The bullpen was lights out, as Pat Misch (3 IP), Bobby Parnell (1 IP) and Elmer Dessens (1 IP) combined for five innings of one-hit ball, but it didn’t matter. The Mets couldn’t get anything generated off Rodrigo “Rescued off Baseball’s Scrapheap” Lopez, who carried a shutout into the seventh. Ryan Church continued his hot-streak for the Mets, collecting three hits. Nick Evans and Brian Schneider each drove in runs with seventh-inning doubles, but that was it. Mets take on the Phillies again at 4:05 p.m. today, with Fernando Nieve taking on Jamie Moyer, the crafty lefty who reportedly witnessed the birth of Christ. Let’s Go Mets!
