Mets send Takahashi down

Posted: June 22, 2009 in Odds and Sods

The Mets designated Ken Takahashi for assignment this afternoon, which I guess makes sense since Jerry Manuel barely used the guy. The lefty from Japan was 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA in 15 games for the Mets. In a strange statistical twist, lefties absolutely owned him, hitting .429 (12-28) while righties batted just .111 (4-36). Strange. I actually liked this guy and thought he should have been used as a long-reliever type. No word on who will replace him on the roster.
Update: Hat tip to Adam Rubin of the Daily News and Metsblog, looks like the Mets are calling up lefty Pat Misch, whom they recently picked up off the waiver wire from San Fran. and rookie outfielder Fernando Martinez. Carlos Beltran (bone bruise in knee) appears headed to the DL. What a trainwreck of a season.

Welcome to the wonderful world of blogging. It’s such a thrill to wait impatiently for some warped soul to leave a comment. Then you find you’ve been unjustly flamed. Or even worse, wait and wait and wait and no one comments. (Hint, I’ve had an anonymous political blog for 5-6 years. Used to get a lot of traffic in Illinois. Almost no one in Florida has found it.)

It’s actually given me a bit of a release. You know how wrapped up I get in my Mets (as you do with the Cubs). Writing about it helps me release the anger after Luis Castillo drops a routine popup to lose a game, for instance….
